Red Cross will benefit from quirky event.
LONDON, ENGLAND, August 27, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ --There are just 720 mountain gorillas left in the wild. Many other types of gorilla are also under threat. The Gorilla Organisation is working to rectify this, and since 2003 has hosted the entertaining Great Gorilla Run in London.
On Saturday September 24th, competitors will run a 7k course around the City and South Bank, taking in London Bridge, Blackfriars and Tower Bridge en route.
But this is not any old run, for the entrants will have to contend with an outfit that would not necessarily be a first choice for someone embarking on a long journey. To draw attention to their cause, they will be running in full gorilla costumes.
Participants pay GBP80 to enter, GBP50 of which goes on the costume, which runners can keep after the event, and GBP30 for the charity. Competitors must also raise a minimum of GBP400, with the money going towards various conservation projects in Africa.
Runners are able to register in groups as well as dressing up over their suit, while there will be an after party and prize giving ceremony at the finish line.
Hotels-London.co.uk can offer plenty of hotels to anyone who wants to make a weekend of this brilliant event. St Giles Hotel in Bloomsbury and Grange City Hotel are just two of the many options available.
