SINGAPORE, July 21, 2011 /24-7PressRelease/ -- Singapore's Esplanade is hosting a double bill of contemporary theatre by the artist Zan Yamashita.
 
He will perform It's Just Me Coughing and Yokohama Stay on August 5th and 6th, with the action getting started at 20:00 local time on both dates.
 
In the first piece, Zan combines words - in English and Japanese - with movement to convey feelings to the audience, while haikus by Hosai Ozaki are projected behind him.
 
While it features an undercurrent of humour, it is also a meditation on the solitude experienced by people who live in major cities.
 
Zan explained that the second of the two pieces was written in 2002, when he left his native city of Kyoto to spend time in Yokohama.
 
In a statement, he said: "I edited and wove various texts which are describing physical movements, scenery of Yokohama, an accident I encountered, lonely illusions in the room and my thoughts towards creation."
 
Zan started dancing at the age of 19 and used to give street performances in Osaka before finding success choreographing, directing and acting in theatre productions.
 
The double bill costs S$25 (GBP12.75), although there are concessions available.
